Established in 2009 by Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 353G, the Statewide Volunteer Firefighter (SVF) Plan is a 401(a) tax-qualified retirement savings program for volunteer firefighters who provide services to municipal fire departments or independent nonprofit firefighting corporations. The Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) is the plan administrator. The State Board of Investment (SBI) is responsible for selecting, monitoring, and reviewing the investment option within the Plan, as well as reporting annual returns and tracking market values.
